2012 Doomsday – Is this truly the end of our civilization? It seems amazing that we could live our lives in blissful ignorance and yet signs abound for a momentous occurence.
I don’t believe that 2012 will mean Doomsday. Too often cataclysmic prophecies are blown out of proportion and take on a life of their own in the telling and re-telling.

2012 End Times? Are we really living at the end of all time? Will something dramatic and shocking occur that will end the course of human history on our planet in just a few short years from now?
Of course some predict that this is indeed the case. They theorize and speculate that come 2012 our civilization is doomed to be annihilated, wiped off the face of the planet. Indeed that the planet itself may not survive huge cataclysms to come.
On the face of it these end times prophecies appear to be stark warnings and if you read enough material on the web, lead you to believe that there may be some truth to these statements.
However, the fact is nobody knows for certain. Similar historic dates have come and gone in the past including the year 2,000.

So what makes 2012 any different?
It may well have something to do with the sheer number of books, movies and popular media channels referencing this year. We live in a time when many people on this planet have access to information at their fingertips.
This alone drives up the number of people being exposed to the idea of 2012 above and beyond other dates. Couple this with the fact that there certainly seems to be a feel of change in the air.
Jus the uncertainty of life from the economy to the technological advancements. Something seems to be afoot.
In any case 2012 may not be the end times per se but will certainly usher in a new epoch.
Whether its because mass human consciousness is triggered to awaken or our planet moves into a new area of the universe who knows?

Prophecy for 2012, enigmatic and alluring the fact is many prophecies surround December 21, 2012. Some center on the demise of human civilization and Earth, others believe 2012 will herald an age of enlightenment and transformation of world order. While prophecies fluctuate between destruction and restoration; no one argues change is coming. The key prophecy for 2012 that causes greatest alarm and curiosity is to do with earth’s destruction.
Mass Destruction
Many prophecies surrounding December 2012 involve the destruction of planet Earth. According to theorists, events are already happening which will lead to destruction of Earth.
Based on the Mayan Long Calendar, 2012 is the year the Sun will go through the next cycle of magnetic change. During this time the Sun’s poles will shift causing solar flares; although this happens every 11 years, this cycle is predicted to be extreme.
Saturn and Jupiter are drawing close to Earth’s gravitational field. Magnetic energy produced from this alignment, coupled with alignment of the Sun and Earth’s poles, will cause chaos on Earth.
These alignments will cause a polar shift on Earth: the North Pole will become the South Pole and vice versa. This shift will cause earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis unparalleled in history. Catastrophic loss of continents will occur from floods and earthquakes. Solar flares are predicted to bombard Earth decimating what remains.
While these predictions seem extreme, there is scientific proof that gives credence to this prophecy; however, change and destruction will be on a smaller scale and leave behind significantly less destruction than predicted.
Biblical Prophecy
Those vaguely familiar with Biblical prophecy cannot help but make the connection between December 21, 2012 and end times predicted in the Bible. While the Bible is clear that God has not revealed the exact time for the end of the world, there are striking parallels between Biblical prophecy and the Mayan calendar.
The Bible predicts total destruction of Earth via earthquakes, floods, and God’s final judgment, Armageddon; the final battle between good and evil. The Bible says once the battle between good and evil is won, God will destroy heaven and Earth and create a new world in which His followers will dwell forever.
Age of Enlightenment
As some predict world destruction, others prophecy a time of heightened spirituality and enlightenment. Spiritualists interpret the Mayan calendar, not as the end of the world, but of an age. They predict this new age will bring global consciousness in which mankind will turn from greed, murders, and strife, and focus on building a new world order.
This new world will be free of war, economic adversity, and environmental waste. Our altered focus will be inner spirituality and peace, global unity, and restoration of mother Earth.
Prophecies surrounding December 21, 2012 range from total destruction to rebirth of Earth. Unfortunately, history has taught us predicting our future often fails and an environment of fear and unrest is created until the prophecy is found to be untrue.
Perhaps we should focus less on things we can’t control, like the future, and turn our attention to circumstances we can change that will make the world better for all humans.
Ultimately, the prophecy for 2012 that everyone fears just may not come to pass and what remains important is the day to day moment to moment quality of life that we lead.
