Actually, the Mayans were a clever bunch of guys stuck out in Meso America. They accurately figured out the length of a year, down to a decimal point and calculated when every solar and lunar eclipse was timed to happen right down to our present day.

So we can put some credibility to what they have to say about 2012.

But the fact is the Maya never said anything hard and fast about 2012 but they did believe in cyclical time – In other words beginnings and endings of chunks of time.

So 2012 marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. The Mayan prediction of the end of the world is therefore a bit of an interpretation.
